A Beautiful hike following the River Cam to Cambridge
This scenic 20 km hike begins at Shepreth railway station, heading north through the rolling Cambridgeshire countryside. Our first landmark is crossing the picturesque village green at Barrington, following tranquil footpaths and farm tracks, the route threads through the quiet hamlets of Harston and Hauxton before tracking the meandering path of the River Cam.
As you approach the city’s fringes, you will enter the shaded woodlands of the Byron's Pool Local Nature Reserve. Known historically as the poet’s pool, this historic weir was a favoured swimming spot for Lord Byron and Rupert Brooke. Emerging from the trees, the trail passes the famous Orchard Tea Garden and enters the wide expanse of Grantchester Meadows. Here, the flat riverside path offers iconic views of grazing cattle and distant university spires.
The hike concludes in the historic centre of Cambridge , you may wish to finish finish your journey at the Christmas in Cambridge village on Parker's Piece.

What you need to bring
Please come dressed for a day hike with suitable clothing and footwear you may need to bring a waterproof if needed. You will also be needed to bring water and a packed lunch
