DESCRIPTION:

Beginning at Welwyn North Train Station in the pretty village of Digswell we head towards and onto Ayot Way - a disused railway line - heading through stunning countryside as we follow gravel tracks towards the village of Whitwell. Here we will stop at the famous Emily’s Cafe known for it’s cycle friendly atmosphere and fantastic cakes!

After this short break we continue our journey through the village of St. Pauls Warden - ancestral home of the Queen Mother’s family - before heading North crossing under the A1 and through the village of Weston. Here we pick up an old Roman road, a public byway, heading South passing a beautifully restored windmill located at Cromer. From here, we pick up the second half of the Roman Road heading towards the village of Ardleigh for our second stop of the day, a farm cafe serving a range of refreshments.

Once you are suitably refreshed the tour continues South through the villages of Benington and Watton-at-Stone as we make our way back to Digswell where we say our fond fair-wells back at Welwyn North Station.

A large proportion of the route makes use of gravel and public right-of-way connected by a series of small country lanes. This tour is suitable for all cyclists with a reasonable level of fitness.

All refreshment stops are at an additional cost to the cyclist.
